More on candlemaking with an aside about recycling

One of the great things about doing these candle fundraisers is that it's quite a simple matter to pour up a few extras for myself. I order smooth sided jelly jars with pewter lids for the candles that I sell, but pour the ones for my own use into salsa jars, spaghetti sauce jars, pickle jars, etc... because I don't like to throw away glass after just one use, and there is no local place to recycle glass (at least not in my county that I know of). I have several pretty candle jars that I fill as gifts, and most of the recipients give the jars back to me after they have burned the candle so that I can reuse the jar.

This weekend I have made 106 candles, with about a dozen to keep for myself. I generally do 12 fragrances when I do fundraisers. This time the choices were Blueberry Pie, ButterCream, Clean Cotton, Apple Cinnamon, Cucumber Melon, Lemon Verbena, Pumpkin Crunch Cake, Honeysuckle, Monkey Farts (it smells like bananas, grapefuit, bubble gum, kiwi and strawberry and is hands down ALWAYS my best seller), Amish Harvest, Very Berry and Warm Vanilla Sugar.

Here are a couple of helpful links, if anyone out there makes candles (Jaspenelle) or is interesting in making candles. I learned this skill online and through library books and it has earned me lots of money and makes my house smell fantabulicious. Plus, I always have a gift on hand or a donation for a charity raffle.

Alabaster Fragrance and Color has the best wax, container and fragrance oil prices.

Nature's Garden has fantastic oils at great prices. Most of my favorite fragrances come from them.

Lemon Verbena is my 2nd favorite scent of all time, yummy! (Lavender Vanilla is my #1 favorite.) I haven't made candles since... wow, over a year, since I was 7 or 8 months pregnant.

It's one of the things I would like to do if I had more time. But then again, if I had more time, I'd probably be composing..

Eh, bien.
